Rolex Sea-Dweller 126603 Reviews
The Rolex Submariner is considered the most iconic diver's watch on the market. However, Rolex is not the first company to introduce a diver's watch to the public. Blancpain released Fifty Fathoms a year ago, while Omega released Marine Corps 20 years before the Submariner. Sea Ambassador was launched in the 1960s. So far, the Submariner has been able to survive at depths of up to 200m (660ft). The Sea-Dweller is designed as a separate model to extend the underwater depth range. The Submariner is the perfect everyday diver, but it has one major flaw in terms of important depths. After long, intense saturation dives, users will notice loose crystals, sometimes quickly, and frequent loud "pops" in the decompression chamber. This is because helium builds up inside the watch, and the pressure eventually escapes through the watch's weakest point, which, in the case of divers, is the plexiglass.

Watch prototypes that aim to solve this problem are called sea-dwellers because they are designed to lurk in the deep sea for extended periods of time. The cracked crystal is resolved by a mechanism now patented by Rolex, the infamous Helium Evacuation Valve (HEV). This rather simple device allows the helium particles to escape in a controlled manner, reducing the internal pressure and preventing the gas from being squeezed out of the crystal. In 1967, the first official Rolex Sea-Dweller watch came out. Reference 1655 Single Line of Red Text, aka "The Single Red"
Fifty years later, in 2017, Rolex released their new Sea-Dweller, reference 126600. This will be the first time in 50 years that a line of red text will appear on the SD's dial in a nod to the original which is celebrating its anniversary. The Sea-Dweller has grown to 43mm in size and for the first time in its history comes with a Cyclops and a date.
At Baselworld 2019, Rolex made another change to the mighty Dweller by releasing a new variant – the first two-tone reference the model range has ever seen.
Consistent with its closest relative, the 126600, this new version features a 43mm diameter case that wears exactly the same as the all-steel model, with ceramic bezel inserts, a new caliber 3235 movement, blue parachrom hairspring and power reserve 70 hours thanks to the Chronergy escapement. Internally, absolutely nothing has changed.
Aesthetically, on the other hand, in true Rolex fashion, this otherwise dedicated tool watch has received a dose of polished yellow Rolesor gold through the oyster bracelet, bezel, and center of the application markers. A gold-plated dial print replaces the red text. This helps to give the otherwise stark and rugged look a sense of sophistication and refined irony.
